Surrey County Council is planning to make arrangements to work with abused children following news that children's charity NSPCC is to close its outreach centre in the region.
The Surrey Safeguarding Children Board will now take control of providing support to vulnerable youngsters, Children and Young People Now reports.
Ben Byrne, a member of the board, said that it was working hard to ensure that the gap left by the departure of the NSPCC would be adequately filled.
"I think we will be able to fill the gaps around witness support through the witness service, but I think the more difficult gap to fill will be around the therapeutic needs of children who have been abused," he told the news provider.
However, Mr Byrne believes that providing the additional services in the current economic climate will be difficult.
Any individual wanting to work with vulnerable children must first be subject to and pass an
enhanced disclosure check to assess their suitability for the role.
