Voluntary groups are sure to be pleased by news that the government is setting up a taskforce designed to reduce red tape and bureaucracy in the sector.
The body has been created to help ease the burden of regulation faced by charities so that they can get on with their work.
It forms part of the government's Big Society initiative and will make recommendations and conduct reviews into the Gift Aid system as well as looking at Criminal Records Bureau (
CRB) checks.
Lord Hodgson, who will chair the new group, has called on charities to come forward with ideas of how best to get rid of the bureaucracy.
Minister for civil society Nick Hurd said: "This is a tough time for small civil society organisations and we want to make life easier for them.
"So I have asked for specific ideas on how we can thin the thicket of bureaucracy and regulation that too often gets in the way … every pound or hour we can save a small voluntary organisation is a pound or hour that could be better spent."
