Torbay council announces children's service cuts

26 Aug 10 - 1:12PM  |
Child safeguarding services are likely to be damaged thanks to the decision of Torbay Council to reduce its funding to the sector.

Children and Young People Now has reported that the local authority plans to cut its spending on the area by as much as £200,000 in an attempt to save money.

The revised budget plans, which have been submitted for consideration, include cuts of £69,000 to literacy and support services, as well as £30,000 from the budget for training school support staff and offering study support for young people.

Indeed, further cuts will also be seen by transferring Learning and Skills Council staff to the local authority, the news provider reports, with this hoped to save as much as £50,000.

However, the funding reductions are unlikely to end there, with Torbay Council's Play Builder scheme also under threat of losing £484,000 of money.
